A Country Liberal Party team with eight Members in the Legislative Assembly will provide a strong opposition to hold the Gunner Government to account, Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said today.

“Counting is now complete and I am very pleased to welcome Steve Edgington (Barkly) and Bill Yan (Namatjira) to our new Country Liberal Party team. Combined with earlier results showing the election of Joshua Burgoyne (Braitling), Marie-Clare Boothby (Brennan), Ian Sloan (Daly), Jo Hersey (Katherine) and Gerard Maley (Nelson), this brings the Country Liberal total seats to eight,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.

“On the declaration of polls, the next generation of CLP members begin their tireless work as a strong Opposition to hold the Gunner Government to account and continue to connect with people right across the Territory on the issues that matter to them.

“Our team of candidates ran strong, focussed and energetic campaigns. Thank you to each and every one of them, their volunteers and their families for their tireless efforts and sacrifices.

“The Country Liberal Team listened to Territorians about what is important to them, and we responded with a comprehensive, costed plan to grow our economy, create jobs and tackle crime.

“Tens of thousands of Territorians voted for the CLP and we will fight hard every day to hold the Gunner Government to account.

“It is incumbent on the new Government to fix the economy and tackle the ever increasing crime problem across the Territory.

“The Gunner Government cannot act as if it’s business as usual and continue to fumble on crime and the economy – it’s too important to the Territory’s future,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.
