Gerard Maley, the new Member for Nelson has been elected the new Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Deputy Leader of the Country Liberal Party in the inaugural meeting of the new Country Liberal Party team, Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said today.

“I am delighted to announce Gerard Maley has been elected as my Deputy Leader. “Gerard is a former mechanic and lawyer, and brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“Joshua Burgoyne, the new Member for Braitling, has also been elected as the Opposition Whip.

“I will be consulting with Gerard before allocating the shadow ministries to my team later on this week.

“We all now begin our tireless work as a strong Opposition to hold the Gunner Government to account and continue to connect with people right across the Territory on the issues that matter to them.

“I am proud of each and every one of our Members. They each ran strong, focussed and energetic campaigns.

“It is incumbent on the Gunner Government to fix the economy and tackle the ever increasing crime problem across the Territory. “The Gunner Government cannot act as if it’s business as usual and continue to fumble on crime and the economy – it’s too important to the Territory’s future,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.
