Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, is calling on the Chief Minister to follow the lead of his Queensland counterparts, and urgently reverse the Territory’s watered down youth bail laws.

“The Queensland Labor Government has moved swiftly to review the state’s youth bail laws. The Palaszczuk cabinet is meeting today and all options are on the table. The QLD government is also committing to fast-track any changes.

“Like the Northern Territory, Queensland is also grappling with youth crime. The difference is, unlike the Territory, the Queensland government is prepared to show leadership and fix its broken youth justice system.

“The Chief Minister has the opportunity to reverse his weak youth bail laws when Parliament sits next week. The question is, will he admit his government has got it wrong and put the interests of Territorians above politics?” said Ms Finocchiaro.
