Shadow Minister for Recreational Fishing, Gerard Maley, is calling on the Gunner Labor Government to take immediate action and impose an interim ban on commercial crabbing in Shoal Bay to safeguard recreational fishing.

“The peak body representing recreational fishing, AFANT, is seeking urgent action to stop commercial crabbing in Shoal Bay, and we support this position.

“In the lead-up to the August 2020 election the Country Liberals committed to appointing an expert panel to explore and advise on this issue.

“The expert panel should be assembled, as a priority, and its report should be made public before any decision is made whether or not to allow commercial crabbing in Shoal Bay.

“Recreational fishing is a core part of the Territory lifestyle and we want to ensure the Gunner Government is protecting our way of life,” said Mr Maley.
