Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, says the Chief Minister has a blatantly covered up allegations that a member of his staff, and a sitting MLA, have fundamentally breached community standards by being involved in the Labor cocaine sex scandal.

“This scandal was a major test of the Chief Minister’s leadership. This Chief Minister’s legacy is now crime, cocaine and cover ups.

“This is a blatant cover up. There is no other way to describe it. This is disgraceful behaviour from a Chief Minister and this goes to the integrity of the entire Parliament.

“Yesterday in Parliament, I asked the Chief Minister to deny that members of his parliamentary team and staff were involved in the Labor cocaine sex scandal and whether he had launched an investigation.

“The Chief Minister refused to deny or investigate the allegations. This is the very definition of a cover up.

“Labor Ministers have told media the MLA’s position is untenable. The Opposition shares this view.

“Any manager, CEO, or board faced with serious sex and drug allegations within their own organisation has a legal and moral obligation to investigate. The message the Chief Minister is sending to every single Territorian, and boss, about turning a blind eye to this type of behaviour makes him no longer fit to hold office.

“The Chief Minister has now embroiled himself in the middle of this scandal. His position is untenable, his leadership is profoundly inadequate.

“The Chief Minister must walk into Parliament this afternoon and address these allegations, or resign,” said Ms Finocchiaro.
