Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, says the Chief Minister and his disgraced Labor team should hang their heads in shame after voting down the urgency of the Opposition’s Bail Amendment Bill.
“Labor had the chance to show it was listening to the community, listening to police, listening to key industry bodies and taking the first step to fix the Territory’s crime crisis.
“Instead, the Chief Minister and the Gunner Labor Government voted down the Opposition’s move to urgently debate our Bail Amendment Bill 2021.
“For a government Minister to brazenly suggest these law changes risk letting offenders off is absolutely absurd. What planet is Labor living on?
“The Gunner Government has proven how gutless it is, hiding behind the pathetic excuse of not being given enough time to look at the details of our crucial reforms to the broken bail system.
“Chief Minister, you are now directly responsible for every single Territorian who is assaulted, abused, robbed, victimised or traumatised, by a repeat offender or an offender on bail. “You have abandoned Territorians. You have disgraced yourself,” said Ms Finocchiaro.
