Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, says it’s clear the Federal Government is the only
game in town and recognises the Northern Territory’s dire economic situation.

“We welcome the $5.1 billion investment in the Territory, by the Commonwealth, in Budget
2021-22.

“The deep fiscal black hole Territory Labor has plunged us into means the Chief Minister
continues to rely on the Commonwealth Government to prop up our ailing economy – and
the Feds have delivered, including tax cuts which are expected to benefit 100,000
Territorians.

“The funding earmarked for the Northern Territory includes $324 million for NT roads –
specifically, $150 million for National Highway Upgrades – and the $747 million defence
infrastructure spend.

“Health and hospital funding in the Territory will get a $685 million dollar boost, including
$4.6 million for the COVID-19 public health response.

“Transport infrastructure projects will get an additional funding injection of $401 million, as
part of the Commonwealth’s 10-year infrastructure pipeline, while education and skills
funding will be boosted by close to $470 million.

“Unlike the Gunner Government’s reckless, economic pain-inducing budget, the Morrison-McCormack Government has a detailed economic recovery plan to create jobs, and grow
the Territory’s economy,” said Ms Finocchiaro.
