Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, says the NT Treaty Commissioner cannot continue
in his role while the outcome of an investigation into allegations of abuse and threats of
violence against an Indigenous women is kept secret by the Chief Minister

“Treaty Commissioner, Mick Dodson, must be stood down – today. He simply cannot continue
in his important and highly-paid position, while these allegations hang over his head.

“I am calling on the Treaty Minister, Selena Uibo, to do what she should have done months
ago and suspend the Commissioner until the Chief Minister’s report into the alleged incident
is made public.

“I am also calling on the Chief Minister to publicly release the outcome of the investigation
into these serious allegations.

“The hypocrisy of the Gunner Government is staggering. Labor Ministers, including Minister
Uibo took part in the March4Justice, standing alongside women holding signs that said “Why
Would She Lie?” yet have done everything in their power to keep these allegations out of the
public eye.

“To even consider this brazen double-standard would wash with Territorians is not only tone
deaf, but a sign Labor is paying lip service to stamping out sexual harassment and violence
against women, while desperately trying to cover-up its own failures.

“Minister Uibo, do what you should have done months ago and stand the Commissioner
down. Today. Territorians don’t deserve to stomach your lack of integrity, leadership and
action any longer,” said Ms Finocchiaro.
