Two weeks ago the good people of Daly were regrettably informed by their local member, Ian
Sloan, that he would be resigning today due to health reasons. It took great courage for Ian
to be so open about his challenges, and that he has made the difficult decision to put the
people of Daly and his health first.

Ian had intended this evening to deliver his final speech in Parliament, thanking his electorate,
but due to lockdown restrictions and the cancellation of sittings that could not occur.

Instead, this afternoon, Ian Sloan provided his formal resignation to the Speaker.

I know firsthand how proud and humbled Ian was to be elected to represent the people of
Daly, and he has made an extraordinary contribution over the past 12 months.

I’d like to thank Ian for his contribution in holding the Gunner Government to account and
fighting to secure a commitment for health services to the people of Dundee.

STATEMENT FROM IAN SLOAN:

I remain very passionate about the Daly region and I still intend to be present in the
community, as I truly believe the Daly has so much to offer. We are fortunate to live in the
best region in the Territory – in the best country in the world. I will continue to advocate for
everything Daly-related.

I had set myself a number of goals for the four-year term, and I believe we have made progress
on several of these issues. I am particularly proud that in the past 12 months we have achieved
a significant win with a commitment from government for a health facility at Dundee Beach.

The Daly has so much to offer – and it needs a voice in parliament to make sure that the
interests of this community are heard loud and clear.

I have no doubt that the Country Liberal Party will find an excellent candidate to run in the
Daly by-election, and I hope that the electorate will support them in continuing to grow the
Daly region and hold the Gunner Labor Government to account
