Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gerard Maley, says Territory taxpayers have the right to
know how much they are forking out for large-scale security upgrades at the Chief Minister’s
home.

“During Opposition questioning this afternoon, the Chief Minister admitted the Department
of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics is paying for extensive security upgrades at his private
residence, reportedly worth more than $25,000.

“No one should be made to feel unsafe in their own home. Not the Chief Minister, and not a
single other Territorian. But Territorians deserve to know how much is coming from the
taxpayer for these security measures – and why the Chief Minister isn’t paying for the
upgrades out of his own pocket.

“This is similar to the issues we’ve seen with BizSecure where, instead of dealing with crime
head on, Labor dips into the public purse to deal with the damage and suggests Territorians
barricade themselves inside their homes and businesses to escape the NT’s crime crisis,” said
Mr Maley.
