Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Gerard Maley, says the Chief Minister has taken his contempt for Territorians to disgraceful new lows, by gagging debate around a report his own Minister should have tabled in Parliament days ago.

“It’s a responsibility of Committee members to table reports. Natasha Fyles is the Chair of the Privileges Committee and we expected her to table the report into allegations the Member for Blain mislead Parliament – on Tuesday.

“Labor had hoped to secretly table this document late on the last night of sittings and Michael Gunner was caught completely off guard when the Opposition tabled the report this morning.

“Instead of participating in mature, respectful debate the Chief Minister desperately scrambled to shut down any hint of scrutiny around the Committee report – which was dominated by Labor members who used their numbers to block crucial evidence and stamp out anything that resembled a legitimate inquiry.

“The Chief Minister orchestrated the cover-up of the Labor ‘Cocaine Sex’ Scandal right from the start. He covered-up the story, he covered-up the investigation and today in Parliament he covered-up the report into allegations his Labor colleague – the disgraced Member for Blain – misled Territorians.

“This afternoon, during Question Time the Opposition asked the Chief Minister whether he will now admit his sensational failures, including the Labor ‘Cocaine Sex’ Scandal – instead he rambled on about COVID.

“Michael Gunner wants to be remembered for his stance on COVID, but his legacy is cemented as crime, cocaine and cover-ups,” said Mr Maley.
