Shadow Minister for Health, Bill Yan, says it’s time for the Gunner Labor Government to scrap its redundant Vaccine Pass, which is confusing, contradictory, and demonising Territory businesses with a liquor licence.

“On Wednesday changes to the Vax Pass system were quietly slipped through with no media conference and no Chief Health Officer (CHO) appearance.

“With absolutely no explanation on the health advice behind these changes, Labor has decided that an unvaccinated person who attends a sporting event, sits in the crowd, buys a pie, uses the toilet, cheers on their team and high fives their mates is less of a risk than the punter buying a beer.

“These changes are ludicrous and exactly why the CLP is calling for regular reporting of the evidence and advice the CHO is providing government – and how that advice is being implemented – to parliament.

“Hospitality NT CEO, Alex Bruce, summed it up bluntly on local radio this morning, saying: “The Vax Pass has become a licence to drink. Territorians, are we comfortable with that?

“The Vaccine Pass was a sensible measure when government was trying to increase the vaccine rate and monitor outbreaks before the Omicron wave hit the Territory, but it’s now turned into a complete joke.

“The CLP’s call for regular reporting is now more important than ever. Territorians deserve more accountability, not less,” said Mr Yan.
