Shadow Minister for Racing, Gaming and Licensing, Marie-Clare Boothby, says the CLP Opposition fully supports the NT racing industry’s rejection of the Gunner Government’s demands to pay back the $12 million for the grandstand which was approved through an improper Cabinet process.

“The only people who could approve the $12 million grant was the Chief Minister and his Labor colleagues.

“Michael Gunner carried the submission ‘under the arm’ into Cabinet. Michael Gunner’s Chief of Staff – and office – supported the Turf Club in the preparation of its submission to government. Michael Gunner and his Labor colleagues made a $12 million funding decision without any proper process.

“The only people who should be paying back that $12 million is the incompetent Chief Minister and his Labor colleagues.

“Instead, Michael Gunner is desperately trying to dodge, distract and deflect from his own disgraceful behaviour. He is punishing every member of the racing industry for his mistakes. That is shameful,” said Ms Boothby.
