The Opposition is calling on Chief Minister Natasha Fyles show that her government will be different to that of Michael Gunner and immediately release Cabinet documents to clear the air over last week’s damning ICAC report.

Last week the ICAC released a report which showed that the former Chief Minister Michael Gunner denied an ICAC request to release Cabinet documents regarding serious allegations that a Cabinet submission had been doctored “so as to be misleading”.

Over the weekend, the Queensland premier committed to release Cabinet papers early in a bid to “restore integrity” to the process.

Deputy Opposition Leader Gerard Maley said the stench of corruption from the fifth floor was rife, and it was time to follow the footsteps of our eastern neighbours.

“Natasha Fyles continues to sit on her hands in silence regarding Cabinet documents which the former Chief Minister refused to release, and meanwhile her Queensland counterpart announces steps to increase transparency and accountability into Cabinet processes.

“These are extremely serious allegations and they must be addressed by the NT government – the silence from Labor is deafening.

“If Natasha Fyles’ QLD colleagues can make a commitment to release Cabinet documents early, then so can the Fyles Labor Government – what have they got to hide?

“This is the same government who continuously campaigned on the grounds of integrity, openness and transparency and it’s the same government who’s proved they are anything but. “Territorians deserve to know the truth about any alleged corruption and by refusing to release documents to facilitate investigations by the very ICAC they created, shows the true nature of Natasha Fyles and this Labor Government.”
