Leader of the Opposition, Lia Finocchiaro, said that the latest Northern Territory crime statistics released today show that crime is continuing to skyrocket, proving what Territorians already know, that the Fyles Labor Government are unable to combat the crime crisis.

“The latest figures show that across the NT:

  • Commercial break-ins are up year-on-year by a whopping 53%
  • House break-ins up by 32%

“In Alice Springs crime continues to spiral out of control:

  • House break-ins are up 38%
  • Commercial break-ins up 68%

“It is even worse in Darwin, with:

  • Commercial break-ins are up by 85%
  • House break-ins are up by 58%
  • Motor vehicle theft up by 40%.

“We are now seeing crime running rampant across the Territory at levels unlike anything we’ve witnessed before. What we aren’t seeing is any kind of plan in order to address this crisis.

“All we hear from the Labor Government is excuses.

“The by-election tomorrow is a chance for voters who are sick and tired of crime and Labor excuses to send them a clear message,” said Mrs Finocchiaro.
