The Fyles Labor Government refuses to stand up for Territorians on a number of serious issues across the Territory, including crime, antisocial behaviour and cost of living.

Shadow Minister for Territory Families and Opposition Whip Joshua Burgoyne said parliamentary sittings this week will be an important opportunity to hold Natasha Fyles and her cabinet to account.

“The CLP will again press for a select committee into our under-pressure police force, which we have already done twice in the parliament,” he said.

“Both of our attempts were knocked back by the Labor Government who refuse to admit there is a problem, but perhaps third time’s a charm and they might actually admit there are serious issues in our police force.

“The Fyles Government can’t ignore the Territory’s crime rates any longer, or our police force who suffer under a government who refuse to acknowledge there are issues in rank and file. Territorians need more decisive action and deserve to feel safe.”

Mr Burgoyne said the results of the Fannie Bay by-election should be a wake-up call for the Fyles Government.

“We know this Fyles Labor Government is only concerned about themselves and their jobs so we will be reminding them at every opportunity at how much is at stake for them if they don’t start to listen to Territorians,” he said.

“Last week, we called on the Police and Territory Families Minister Kate Worden to resign and we still haven’t heard from or seen her since her appearance at the NTPA annual conference. Since then, there has been a litany of failures affecting both her departments and it appears it is on the brink of crashing down.

“The Fyles Government has failed Territorians and failed to keep them safe. The CLP will be demanding answers as to what Labor is going to do to protect Territorians.”
