19 days ago, the NTPA published damning survey results that showed:
- 79.7 per cent of respondents said they do not have confidence in Police Commissioner Jamie Chalker;
- 92.6 per cent of respondents said they do not think there are enough police in the NT to do what is being asked of them;
- 79.4 per cent of respondents rated current morale in the NT Police Force as low, or very low; and
- 87.9 per cent of respondents said they were dissatisfied, or very dissatisfied with the current pay freeze offer from the Government.
NTPA President Paul McCue called it a “complete crisis”.
The CLP has tried twice in 2021 and 2022 to have an inquiry into the crisis in morale, attrition, resourcing, confidence and well-being of our police force.
The Police Minister and Chief Minister have backed the Police Commissioner without any inquiry into the policing crisis.
In the absence of any leadership or action from Government, the CLP today detailed its proposed Inquiry into the police crisis. (Please see attached)
