Enough is enough – that’s the message from fed up Yarrawonga business owners, some who have had their businesses ram raided multiple times.

Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro said she stood in solidarity with those business owners, who are rallying for a second time against the crime plague sweeping the Territory.

“These business owners are the human face of the crime and alcohol policy failures of Labor,” she said.

“People put their blood, sweat and tears into their business and this Fyles Labor government thinks it’s ok to put the rights of the offenders above the rights of the victim?” she said.

“I can’t imagine how hard it is for these people, the backbones of our business community, to come in and see their business has once again been victim to these senseless attacks, but how much harder again it would be to know you have a Labor government doing nothing to stop them.

“People do not come out and rally against the government for no reason – these people are understandably hurting, feeling disempowered, and they must be heard.”

Natasha Fyles cannot deny the crime crisis any longer – her own police stats show the Territory is drowning.

Commercial break ins across the Northern Territory are up 52 per cent, Darwin is up 83 per cent, Palmerston 45 per cent and Alice Springs 63 per cent.

“This is just not good enough, and more needs to be done,” she said.

“One of the first things a CLP Government I lead would do is scrap the legislation raising the age of criminal responsibility, make breach of bail condition an offence, target repeat offenders and make sure Territory Families is only focussing on the care and protection of children to stop them becoming criminals.”
