Will the Territory’s larrikin culture survive the Fyles Labor government?

That’s what Shadow Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage wanted to know when she asked a curly-tailed question in parliament today.

Mrs Hersey pointed to the Territory’s Pig and Pussy Hunt, the Great Jerk-Off and the Muff Festival as events that might be considered “offensive” and in line for tossing off the NT calendar.

“If Labor finds the word Pig offensive, the name of the event may have to be changed. But, given their incredibly low bar for offence, it may be scrapped altogether,” she said.

While Mrs Hersey cited other specific examples, including entrants in the Melbourne Day crocodile races, such as Soft Croc and Croc Head, Natasha Fyles failed to clarify whether or not these terms would fall foul of her radical legislation.
