Labor’s strategy of stamping out criticism by shutting down debate four times in parliament this week is an appalling stain on Northern Territory democracy, according to Opposition Leader Lia Finocchiaro.

Despite a staggering $7.6b debt, Labor didn’t see any reason why the Opposition should be holding them to account on their reckless spending so yet again shut down the debate.

“Labor don’t want anyone talking about crime but this week they have also shut down debate on their economic performance, their failure to publicly condemn the crimes of their convicted former colleague, and the welfare of Northern Territory police,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.

“In additional to passing legislation to destroy free speech, Labor rejected having the law reviewed after it was in operation.

“That’s all in three days so it’s a worrying sign for the future of this failing government.”
