Being out of touch with the community is one thing but the Labor government’s Police Minister took it to another level today, demonstrating she is out of touch with her own poltfolio.

The Opposition asked Kate Worden how she could justify closing police stations like Harts Range, which services the communities of Engawala and Bonya, to send 40 additional police to Alice Springs.

“The minister was like a rabbit caught in the headlights and her nervous attempt to change topic made it clear it was news to the Minister,” Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro said.

“We know Labor won’t listen to the community about crime but when they don’t even know their own portfolio, there are serious questions to be answered.”

What rattled Ms Worden even more was a supplementary question from local member, Bill Yan, asking how many other remote stations were closed for the same reason ‘other than Atitjere’.

After 37 seconds of awkwardly trying to avoid the question, the minister was forced to sit down.

“If she can’t stay on top of the brief and she can’t listen to Territorians, what is she doing in parliament,” Mrs Finocchiaro said.
