Darwin’s bus network this morning was functioning as well as the Fyles Labor government – in chaos and hurting Territorians.

Deputy Leader of the Opposition Gerard Maley said Darwin parents were severely impacted with the majority of students returning for their first day of school.

“This is a government that cannot even do the basics,” he said.

“The industry shortage has been an ongoing issue and bus drivers, like other front line workers, do not feel safe and Labor is failing to protect them.”

This is not the first time that bus services have been cancelled with drivers quitting due to rising violence

The Labor Government voted down the CLP’s law to mandate time behind bars for every offender who is cowardly enough to assault police, paramedics, nurses, doctors, teachers, corrections officers, retail and hospitality workers, bus and taxi drivers – and any other Territory worker.

“People are leaving the territory in droves and this government sits back and does nothing,” Mr Maley said.

“Under Labor, the community suffers the consequences, not the criminals.”
