The proverbial dog is the least of a postman’s worries in Alice Springs.

For a postie of 38 years, the rocks and knives were the last straw and now 200 residential homes are no longer receiving delivered mail.

Shadow Minister for Territory Families Joshua Burgoyne said the veteran postie had only just returned to work, after being on stress leave for months.

“A knife was brandished in one incident last year that led to time off due to stress,” he said.

“On returning to work, the postie was met with a shower of rocks in another unprovoked attack.

“No one should have to endure that kind of violence and abuse when going about their job.

“That’s why the CLP Opposition tried to introduce mandatory sentencing for anyone assaulting someone in the line of duty. Unfortunately, Labor voted it down.”

Mr Burgoyne has written to the Minister with details about the household where some of the alleged offenders are believed to be living.

“The police have been notified of the latest incident,” Mr Burgoyne said.

“There is video evidence of the incidents that Australia Post has also provided to police.”

This week, residents in Sadadeen received a letter from Australia Post notifying them they would no longer receive delivered mail due to safety concerns.
