When discussing the prospect of new teams for the AFL, leading decision-maker Eddie McGuire said while he’d love to see a team based in the Northern Territory, he understood that wasn’t an option given it is “in complete disarray socially at the moment”.

Shadow Minister for Tourism and Hospitality Marie Clare Boothby said “this is yet another example of the tourism economy missing out on investment due to the Labor Government’s inaction on crime.”

“With our incredible lifestyle and passion for sport we should be in the hot seat for the next AFL team but due to our reputation we’re missing out again.”

“We know Natasha Fyles finds it hard to give a straight answer so I’ll give her some options, my question is:
“Why does the Territory continue to suffer from inaction on crime?

  • A: It’s complex
  • B: It’s hard
  • C: It’s complicated
  • D: We have an incompetent Labor Government

“Territorians say Lock in D Eddie.

“When even an ice cream shop in the heart of Darwin’s CBD (Johnn Johnn’s) has to close for days due to anti-social behaviour how could we expect to attract national investment.” she said.

“Without strong and immediate action the hits to our economy will just keep coming. I am so sick of hearing from tourism and hospitality providers struggling to stay afloat, we’re reliant on these operators and they deserve to be supported.”

“If Natasha Fyles wasn’t so concerned about managing the media, she could focus on managing the Territory.” Ms Boothby said.
