Leader of the Opposition – Lia Finocchiaro

This Labor government continues to show it is dishonest with no integrity, with its failure to take action on Michael Gunner’s travel scandal.

“The Lawler Government is divided and dishonest and incapable of making an honest decision,” Leader of the Opposition Lia Finocchiaro said.

Labor’s motion on the last day of this Parliament handballs taking action on the recommendations of the ICAC Commissioner’s report into Michael Gunner’s remote travel scandal until after the election to the next Parliament.

Instead of taking action now, Labor wants to refer the recommendations to a committee in the next Parliament to develop reforms.

“This is a motion to do nothing and take no action now. Labor is using its numbers to kick the can down the road.

“Labor got elected claiming to be open and honest with its infamous ‘restoring integrity to government’ document but ever since they have done the opposite.

“Labor is simply incapable of accepting responsibility for anything. What this Labor Government should be doing is admit they got it wrong.

“What Labor should have done is gone into the Parliament and repay Territorians their money.

“This do nothing motion is the ultimate sign of a government that for eight years has failed to take any responsibility for its actions.

“Labor has no standards and no shame, but worst of all, no respect for Territorians.

“This is a desperate act by a desperate and divided government that says it’s not our problem.

“This is an insult to all Territorians who deserve much much better.”
