Leader of the Opposition – Lia Finocchiaro MLA

Shadow Treasurer – Bill Yan MLA

The latest CommSec report highlights how Labor continues to let down Territorians with woeful economic management and seeing the Northern Territory economy the worst in the country again.

The Northern Territory’s economy has once again been ranked as the worst performer in the nation in The CommSec July 2024 State of the States quarterly report.

“Labor has been in government in the NT for 19 of the past 23 years and for the past eight we have seen complete failure in economic policy by this Labor Government,” Opposition Leader, Lia Finocchiaro said.

“Labor is incapable of managing the economy. Labor have been in government for 8 years and for over five and half of those the Territory has been ranked last.

“Eva Lawler has held the Treasury portfolio since 2022 and the current economic state of the Territory sits squarely on her shoulders,” Mrs Finocchiaro said

Shadow Treasurer, Bill Yan said the NT economy was going backwards, with the NT in last place in retail spending, equipment investment (down 12.1 per cent), construction work (down 42.2 per cent), housing finance (down 7.1 per cent) and dwelling starts (down 64 per cent).

“Eva Lawler’s abysmal economic record speaks for itself. This is her report card as Treasurer since 2022 and now as Chief Minister,” Mr Yan said.

“Only the CLP has a plan to grow our economy and make Territorians safe.

“Our nation leading payroll tax relief is a game changer and will mean Territory businesses can invest in growing their business and hire more apprentices and trainees,” Mr Yan said.

The CLP will grow the economy by streamlining project approvals and supporting key industries. Our HomeBuilder program will help more Territorians into homes.

And we will help ease cost of living pressures with lower rego costs, doubling the solar feed-in tariff in peak times and doubling the battery bonus.

A CLP Government will reduce crime, rebuild our economy and restore our lifestyle.
